About Ed

Over the past eight years Ed Kyrke-Smith has successfully created a holistic Market Garden within the Kent Downs National Landscape.

He has designed a demonstration of ecological agriculture, working to facilitate visitors and volunteers in workshops and experiences, growing food while protecting and enhancing local biodiversity. He has earned the name Rebel Farmer, through his significant contribution to the local movement to rebel against the current destructive nature of the ‘conventional’ food system.

Through his tireless work, Ed has built a platform for the localization of Kent's amazing food landscape, working with a diverse network of organisations, businesses and individuals in support of the change to local, ecologically produced food.

His aims are to weave together the many stakeholders in this movement towards positive systematic change and has been supporting many of these key organisations in their ambitions over the last few years.

In 2018 he designed and built a school garden in Wye Primary School, leading him on the path towards facilitating learning experiences on holistic market gardening using permaculture principles.

As a founder member and producer he has helped bring together the ideas of an ethical distribution service called the Kent Food Hubs, working directly with producers and consumers to create efficient, short supply chains and bring the best ecological produces to eco-minded consumers in the area.

He has also helped in the formation of KLAW. Kent Landholders Assisting Wildlife to cluster likeminded small land holders towards habitat creation with support from The Kent Wildlife Trust.

Through his partnership with Wilder.Work he facilitates tours, away days and coaching for organisations and businesses wanting to find nature based analogies to management. Rebelfarmer.co.uk
